SUMMARY:Spring 2026 Convention | Successful Patient Outcomes with Healthy Lifestyle Choices
DESCRIPTION:Featuring Thomas R. Ventimiglia\, DC\, FACC \nIntegrating A Wellness Consultation into Practice: Successful Patient Outcomes with Healthy Lifestyle Choices \nThe above atlas adjustment \n\nThe Wellness Consultation is a critical component of the doctor-patient encounter\nIt is an approach to the patient that spans the entire encounter\nIt address the “psychosocial” elements of the patients care\nIt facilitates the patient’s innate ability to self- heal!\n\nAlthough the doctor is trained to counsel and promote wellness during the traditional consultation by offering preventive and supportive services (e.g.\, smoking cessation\, nutritional (dietary) information\, cancer screening tests\, NMS self-management training\, and scoliosis screening)\, it is up to the individual to make lifestyle changes and personal behavior choices that lead to health and wellbeing. \n\nIn spite of the evidence that individuals make healthy choices on a daily basis\, the incidence of lifestyle diseases indicates they are not successful.\nFurthermore\, medical and governmental policy makers\, as well as\, environmental influences have made it more difficult for the patient then it needs to be (e.g.\, food deserts\, media message\, access to care\, water contamination {Flint Michigan}).\nThat said\, the question remains\, do doctors have the clinical tools necessary to facilitate the patients’ journey toward health\, wellness\, and well-being\, and how can they be integrated into the doctor-patient encounter?\n\n\n  \nAbout Thomas R. Ventimiglia\, DC\, FACC\nDr. Ventimiglia’s lectures focus on doctor-patient communication and its impact on the patient’s clinical outcome. The presentations build upon the practitioner’s foundational communication knowledge and skills (e.g.\, health data collection and information dissemination) to advanced communication techniques that improve their empathic listening\, promote collaborative decision making\, and encourage the use of guiding communication style. In addition\, the lectures discuss the importance of the provider’s awareness and sensitivity to the unique determinants of the health of a culturally diverse patient population and the communication skills needed to address them. The overarching objective is to provide the doctor with the skills needed to promote patient empowerment that leads to improved health behavior choices. This lecture includes didactic and workshop methods with the use of external as appropriate. \nA graduate of New York Chiropractic College (NYCC) and Fellow of the American College of Chiropractors\, Dr. Ventimiglia served as dean of NYCC Department of Postgraduate and Continuing Education. In addition\, he has served as the chairperson of the Association of Chiropractic Colleges\, subcommittee on Postgraduate Education. \nDr. Ventimiglia coauthored “The Wellness Consultation: A Communication Model for Improved Patient Outcomes.” That was presented at the NYCC Research Symposium in 2018. He was the principle investigator/conference director for the National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine R-13 Conference Grant on “Conference on Chiropractic and Allopathic Integration.” \nAlthough retired from a private practice after 40 years\, he remains active in the profession as a member of the NCMIC Speakers Bureau.\, the American Public Health Association’s Chiropractic Health Care section and the Federation of International Chiropractic Sports. \nSponsored by NCMIC & Stirling Professional \n\nCarolina Chiropractors is recognized by the PACE program of the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards.
